Animated Spots NickToons

- adolescent a New York–based
studio, who previously associated with Nickelodeon for producing various funny ID and logo's for them, has now created a series of humorous Animated Spots once again for NickToons, Nickelodeon's Cartoon Network. Text from Dzine (snip) ; NickToons asked for over-the-top, adrenalin-driven, absurd scenarios and adolescent gave them "VS" (versus) where unlikely characters face off in bizarre places for unknowable reasons.First in the ring: Canman (a can of spraypaint) vs. Balloonimal (a giant balloon gazelle) fighting each other in an art gallery with fire, funny faces, and a few wicked tricks.
The action is shiny and fresh while referencing classic Three-Stooges style conflict - plumes of steam puff from Balloonimal's ears in anger. In other battles, Cardboard Box faces down Stuffed Animal in car junk yard to see who can eat more. Spin-Psycho (a washing machine) challenges Squid-O-Watt (an electric jellyfish) in a gladiator coliseum full of loose wires and distopian shadows, a post-apocalyptic future-past like in RollerBall or BladeRunner, an association which gives the animated spot a great sense of being at once original and timeless. On top of being visually dynamic and unpredictable, there's not always a clear winner, and two of the vignettes have alternative endings that will surprise any kid watching.

- If you got hang of the "Skeleton Rig" , than its time to get some Character Rigging tips from Paul Neale. Paul explains the basic process to follow and what all Considerations you have to keep in mind while setting up a Rig. The Skeleton Rig for 3ds Max 9

- The "Skeleton Rig" is a very easy to use Rig for 3ds Max created by Brad Noble, who have been working on/off it for last five years and recently released Version 2.2 for 3ds Max 8 and 3ds Max 9. An older version of Skeleton Rig for 3ds max 6, 7 and 8 is also available for download. This easy and handy Rig gives you great amount of control while animating the character. The rig contains full IK/FK blending on the arms and legs, finger controls with preset poses, independent hip rotation and a simple yet powerful spine setup with adjustable influences on the head and FK arms. All limbs can be bent into curves and have automatically twisting bones to greatly help deformation. FK and IK snap buttons for the arms and legs and automatic hiding and unhiding of IK and FK controls depending on the amount of IK for each limb.
Squash and stretch parameters on the head, chest, arms and legs along with adjustment for how much thickening and thinning the bones do when squashed/stretched. The rig also contains manipulators. These are not like 3ds Max’s standard manipulators, but are objects that you move instead of going to the modify panel and adjusting a slider. With the manipulators, you can pose the entire rig almost any way you wish using only the move and rotate tools.

Children of Men - Visual Effects

- fxguide has published an article about Seamless visual effects created for the critically acclaimed film "Children of Men". fxguide talk to visual effects team at Double Negative and Framestore CFC, who worked on the Children of Men
shots. Snip: Children of Men is not an easy film - then neither were the effects. It is often said that seamless effects are just that much harder than dramatic 'big' effects and this was the case with Children of Men. The effects ranged from complex tracking to digital photo-real births and babies. The effects work primarily went to Double Negative (DNeg) who handled most of the matte painting and futuristic compositing, including the extremely complex chase sequences. The digital baby was handled by Framestore CFC. All the work is impressive and the digital baby is perhaps the finest work of its type done so far.

Animated Short film - "SAMURAI"

- Found about it on cartoonbrew,... SAMURAI is animated Short film by Three Legged Legs™, who produced it for General Electric "Imagination at Work" campaign. It's a tale of a pint-sized samurai faced with a seemingly impossible challenge as proposed by a behemoth Emperor and his wicked minions. Casey Hunt, Greg Gunn and Reza Rasoli are creative directors for the short and animation is beautifully done by Jeremy Collins and Christina Lee. Also, I do like the background music by Nick Faber.

Pose to Pose Keyframe Animation *

- This is a great article/tutorial i found in archives; written by Keith Lango about Pose to Pose Organized Keyframe Animation. Since it was first posted by Keith, this article has been used in various animation schools, universities and animation programs around the world. Snip: There has long been two general schools of approaching animation. Straight ahead and pose to pose. Straight ahead is what it sounds like: the animator just charges in and starts animating in a very stream of consciousness sort of way. This results in some genuinely inspired that flows extremely well. It also ends up in alot of dead ends and wasted effort when the animator realizes he's painted himself into a corner. Pose to pose animation is also much as it sounds, The animator picks some seminal poses that, when timed correctly, capture the energy and direction of the shot. The animator then will go and create these poses and hit the timings, working to deliver the shot with structure. This often times ends up with some of the most powerful animation with very strong poses and tight timing, distilling the animation down to...............Tutorial link!!
