VRay ambient occlusion 2.0



- This script renders an ambient occlusion pass with
from any scene, without changing anything. There is no need to prepare the scene in any way either. The Script offers two method to render ambient occlusion. 1) Dirtmap - Every surface is illuminated and contributes to the lighting solution. It is even possible to render indoor rooms without windows. 2) Skylight - Light is coming from a spherical or hemispherical skydome. VRay 1.5 or higher is required for the script to run and If you are using VRay 1.46, there is an older version available, without dirtmap features.

- hmmmm, that’s sounds interesting - Have a look at the List of Top 10 Digital F/x Scenes in Movie History, complied by Popular Mechanics Magazine. You don’t need to be Einstein to guess that, the top of the list is ruled by 1977 block buster movie "Star Wars", which started the new era in Visual Effects industry. Their are many great movies with even greater Digital F/x in this list including 2004 hit "The Day After Tomorrow" at number ten. I wonder what happed to the movies in 2005 and 2006, may be a follow up article along with videos will do the trick for Popular Mechanics Magazine. And if you ask me which effects heavy 2007 movie, you are looking up too? No doubt my answer will be "300", the Movie Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, in which 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Skin Shading with Mental Ray


- The Gnomon Workshop has published a new about "Skin Shading with Mental Ray" by Alex ALVAREZ. This Maya Tutorial consist of three chapters; Working with the Fast-Skin Material, Mapping Color, SSS Layers and Bump and Layering Specularity and Reflections.
Snip: Rendering skin with the natural appearance of translucency, specularity and reflection is achievable thanks to the Mental Ray Fast-Skin material. This tutorial demonstrates how to build the necessary shading network and manage the many attributes available. While the Fast-Skin material does have integrated control for specularity and reflections, we also look at how to implement a layered shader that allows for higher level control over these phenomenon. Using a female head as our example, we start from scratch and observe every step of the process, while explaining the logic behind our creative decisions.

Floor Texture Generator 1.0

Roadkill 1.1 UV Unwrap Tool


- Roadkill 1.1 is a for UV Unwrap, developed with the help of LSCM and ABF code taken from Blender 2.41 and 2.42. Snippet: Every now and again something new in the computer graphics world will make your jaw drop like Maya's Paint Effects. Blender's LSCM and ABF UV Unwrapping tools are another example. If a good proportion of your life is spent in front of Maya, texture mapping polygon meshes, then you should probably install this plug-in and MEL script. Maya has really solid and reliable texture mapping tools but its automatic unwrapping can produce very inefficient results which have to be manually tidied up. Craft Animations Introduces - Craft AutoZoomCam and SoftMotionCam



- Craft Animations has introduced two new products Craft AutoZoomCam and Craft SoftMotionCam plug-ins for direct animation in 3ds Max, Maya and VIZ. Craft AutoZoomCam, a camera plug-in that automatically zooms in on a specified point. For Example: Use this tool in conjunction with an aimed camera in Maya or 3ds Max. Place the Aim on a moving object, and place Craft AutoZoomCam on top of this camera. Parent Craft AutoZoomCam to this camera. Then parent Craft AutoZoomCam’s target mesh to the moving object you want to film. Craft AutoZoomCam will hold the target object in focus, approximately the same size during the whole shot.
Craft SoftMotionCam will follow after any object with a slight delay. You can adjust the amount of delay, and determine whether the delay affects translations, rotations or both. This tool is perfect for filming animated objects. All you have to do is parent/link Craft SoftMotionsCam’s "AttachedCam" to whatever object you want to follow. The resulting film from the "FollowCam" perspective will be a non-mechanical view of the animated object from a given distance.
Also Craft Director Tools no longer have to be installed on each individual unit in a render farm in order for the animations to be rendered.The dummies for Craft Director Tools can now be ‘Unplugged’ – meaning that they remain in the scene with the key-frames intact, but are no longer plugged into the
Craft Director Tools interface. As far as Maya or 3Ds Max are concerned, they are just animated objects. Once you press ‘Unplug’ you will no longer be able to control the dummies with Craft Director Tools, so be sure to wait until you are finished with your scene before you do this.

Tutorials: Maya: Dome Based Lighting

Three-point lighting In 3dsMax *



- Computer Arts has published a new 3ds Max tutorial explaining the Concept of three-point Lighting in Max. Basically the principle of Three-Point Lighting is quite old and used by most of the people in photography (still/moving) and can be used with any 3d software. Although the three Point lighting technique works well in most of the 3d scenes for a close-up shot, I suggest; you may also experiment by using an Omni (ambient only) as filler light representing light from atmosphere (sky, second bounce, reflected ,etc) along with a main light source.. Snip: "A firmly established convention in cinematography, three-point lighting has also become one of the foundations for CG lighting. 3D World shows you how to master the basics of this flexible technique in 3ds Max 8".
