“This is one of the largest steps forward in Quest3D history”, says Remco Jacobs, CTO at Act-3D. “We wanted the real-time 3D industry to be able to utilize everything that is expected from an advanced software engineering tool. We have put a huge amount of effort in making Quest3D a tool for large and advanced projects.”The biggest change is how Quest3D allows you to structure your project. The huge amount of features and image quality have always been the strong points of Quest3D. With the new version it gains another strong point: the ability to build complicated projects and standardize them for future use. Projects can now be divided into modules, parts can be reused and overall manageability is greatly improved. Further, it is now possible to import COLLADA models on the fly. The Newton Game Dynamics engine teaches the software some new tricks and there is an environment system that easily allows you to create skies, clouds, moon, sun, lightning and weather elements. You can just type in a location, time of day and it will draw the starts, moon and sun at the exact locations they should be. New GUI components allow quick creation of sliders, buttons or other user interface elements and as a bonus the OGG sound format is now supported.
The new version is available for free for users that purchased version 3 after July 2007. New users will get the new version directly if they purchase it through the Quest3D web shop or through the Quest3D reseller network. Both web shop and a list of resellers is available on www.quest3d.com.
