Hyperfocal Design Released Three New HDRI Collections

+ Digital Art developer Hyperfocal Design announces the release of its acclaimed HDRI Skies in 3 new collections: "HDRI Skies: Best Sellers" - 12 of Hyperfocal's best selling HDRIs, "HDRI Skies: Volume 1" - 24 HDRIs featuring a balanced variety of sky conditions and "HDRI HyperValue Bundle" - Hyperfocal's entire HDRI sky range in one bundle. Previously only available individually at $59 per texture, Hyperfocal Design has bundled its
HDRI skies to provide greater accessibility and value to customers who require a large and balanced range of sky types and time of day. These images allow for true realism and control in 3D renderings, and the resolution provided is amongst the highest in the industry at 10,000X5,000 pixels. Each HDRI Sky can add instant, super realistic lighting to 3D scenes, with accurate reflections and a dynamic background that reacts realistically with semi-opaque surfaces such as tinted glass or atmospheric effects such as dust and smoke. HDRI stands for High Dynamic Range Image and each HDRI Sky contains a range of exposure values from extremely under exposed to over exposed, allowing artists to choose precisely the exposure or "shutter speed" required. Each HDRI comes with the full resolution HDRI, a full resolution LDR, a small lighting HDRI and a preview JPG. Samples and sample artwork, along with a full product description and ordering information can be found on the Hyperfocal Design website, www.hyperfocaldesign.com.

Revolver Introduces FreeSpin3D *

+ Revolver animation and game technologies has announced today the beta release of FreeSpin3D (Beta Release), the first commercial polygon graphic solution for real-time rendering of 3D models in Adobe Flash. The 3D rendering is enabled by One Layer 3D, Revolver’s core technology. FreeSpin’s solution enables game developers, advertisers, and content developers, a viable, user friendly software that opens the opportunities for new creative streams in 3D and 2.5D content. FreeSpin3D enables developers new game-play opportunities, which is what differentiates a killer application from the rest of the pack.
Flash designers are creative in nature and in the norm, do not program or deal with physics (which are a primary part of 3D development). The Flash programmers on the other hand, are code savvy and are acquainted with physics and code. For the designers, a simple panel is embedded in the Flash development stage, through which they can develop
3D content without the need of any code – just the FreeSpin3D panel and the Timeline. For more advanced users and action script programmers, FreeSpin3d extends the flash movie clip API, exposing a dynamic and extensive library of 3D functions. The extended API provides additional 3D functionality like model rotation, animation and collision detection that can be used within the timeline frames or stand alone scripts thereby easily creating complicated scenes with multiple 3d models. FreeSpin3D enables the importing of 3D models directly into Adobe Flash as a Flash Movie Clip object. As such, it is all Flash, so designers and developers already know how to use it. The FreeSpin3D beta can currently be download free from: www.freespin3d.com

+ CGIndia Interviewed Great Upcoming digital Artist and ArchViz specialist Marco Rolandi, who talks about his work, fantasies, inspiration, carrier and digital art in general. We thank him for taking time out from his busy schedule to chat with us. Marco says; First, thanks for your kind words. Second, there are a lot of tricks that someone need to use depending on the job. When building a scene, I usually follow two rules: the first is to observe the real world, trying to understand how things work and then apply the same principles to my own work. It can be something as simple as the dirt depositing over a surface or as complex as the relationship between buildings in a cityscape. The rule is simple and obvious and applies to...........Read full Interview!!

Pelikan "Griffix" | Animated Spot

+ Richard Rosenman has recently directed a new awesome looking Animated spot, Pelikan "Griffix" produced for Pelikan, Germany. This spot was particularly challenging to produce due to the number of animated kids onscreen, each performing complicated movements. The animation data, as well as the polygon count together produced work scenes that were almost prohibitive to render from a RAM standpoint. Coupled with elaborately-stylized environments, 3D motion blur and full global illumination rendering, the spot had to be broken down into numerous layers in order to successfully render final sequences. This spot was created using ZBrush 3.1, 3dsmax 9.0, Silo, VRay 1.5 RC3, Photoshop CS2 and After Effects 7.0.

Maya Advanced Character Rigging

+ Award-winning 3D animator TJ Galda has continued his new series of instructional material regarding Character Rigging with the much anticipated release of an advanced DVD outlining how to create muscles and tendons using computer graphics software such as Autodesk's Maya. The new DVD is designed to make the techniques as accessible as possible, so that even beginners can create and animate lifelike muscles for their animated characters. Advanced Character Rigging on DVD is available through tjgalda.com and major outlets such as Amazon. TJ Galda has worked as character technical director and studio technical supervisor on films like Fantastic Four, Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, and more recent titles such as Passengers, Passchendaele and Kung Fu Panda. He has also served at Electronic Arts Canada, during which he oversaw all art production on over 25 games at a time. Recently, Mr. Galda received the worldwide Autodesk Maya Master Award. With great demand for the recently published book, the new DVD is now a great extension where Mr. Galda draws on his work in character animation, as well as his experience as an animation instructor, mentor, and lecturer to walk the viewer through the process step by step. Rob O'Neill, Director of the Pratt Institute Digital Arts Research Laboratory, offers praise for the book that the DVD is based upon: "Advanced Character Rigging: Creating Advanced Tendon and Muscle Systems provides production proven techniques and practical insider information on one of the least documented aspects of character setup. TJ Galda is an expert in the field and has produced a welcome and valuable resource for the community. I wish he would stop giving our secrets away." Mr. Galda says: "After being asked countless times about techniques, and having conducted speaking engagements around the world, I saw the need for this series. Creating characters for today's computer animation films is complex, and these books and DVD's strive to make that process as simple as possible."
The DVD goes step by step through a review of major topics used in modern computer graphic characters. It then delves in to the meat of the topic, outlining how to create muscles and tendons in a simple fashion. These systems are typically quite complex in modern films, but Mr. Galda has found a new technique that reduces this complexity a great deal. For more information, please visit

Fusion "3D Matte Paintings" Videos by cmiVFX

+ cmiVFX cmiStudios. launches a brand new video for Eyeon's Fusion product line. The training video covers the process from converting a 2D matte painting into a 3D scene fly through. The source materials included in this video are of the highest possible quality, and are worth thousands of dollars more than the video itself. We include the source at no extra charge for cmiVFX customers. There are also several different project files demonstrating the differences between the different techniques of matte painting extraction.
3D Matte Painting Extractions are a now common process in the visual effects industry. The technique for matte paintings and 3d extraction have been around for years, but normally found in a 3d animation package like Maya, XSI, or Cinema 4D. Since version 5.0 of Eyeon's Fusion compositing application, 3d tools have been available to generate 3d style composites. With the latest release of Fusion, additional tools have been introduced in order to assist in the workflow of using 3d projections utilities such as the "Projector" and "Camera". As usual, we show several different methods for achieving your goals so that you can apply your learning to your own personal projects. We included a 2k matte painting with a solid plate and in 20 different layers to assist you with the time it takes to prepare your materials for the composites. There is no doubt about it, we created the perfect environment and digital assets to get you into this project no matter what path you decide. We have set up the projects with Fusion 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 users in mind. We include a project file with the new PAW projection tool in 5.3, but heavily rely on the traditional tools inside of Fusion with the other variations. For more information, please - Click Here
