Shrek The Musical: Autodesk Animation Technology Brings Magic Mirror to Life


+ In the new Broadway hit Shrek The Musical, DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. is relying on Autodesk, Inc. 3D character animation technology. A customized system based on Autodesk MotionBuilder software is being used to generate a digital face in the Magic Mirror, which speaks to Lord Farquaad in real-time for every show. "We've had a great, long standing engagement with Autodesk; we rely heavily on Autodesk software and custom development for many of our projects," said Jim Mainard, head of Research and Development, DreamWorks Animation Technology. "For Shrek The Musical, the sophistication, interactivity and believability of the Magic Mirror wouldn't have been possible without Autodesk technology. "Autodesk is a world leader in design innovation technology. Autodesk 3D software and services enable customers to visualize, simulate and analyze entertainment and design projects.
For Shrek The Musical, Autodesk designeda system that captures the facial motion of actor John Tartaglia in real-timeand uses it to animate the face in the Magic Mirror. This live-to-stage performance is the first of its kind in a Broadway musical. The Magic Mirror was featured on NBC's The Today Show on December 8, 2008 and tested by co-host Meredith Vieira. The Art Institutes Poster Design Competition 2009

You could earn a tuition scholarship to study graphic design at one of over 40 Art Institutes locations across North America. The Art Institutes is sponsoring the Poster Design Competition, a program which awards tuition scholarships of up to $25,000 to study Graphic Design at a participating Art Institute location. In partnership with the not-for-profit organization Americans for the Arts, The Art Institutes annual Poster Design Competition is an opportunity for talented young artists at the high school level to earn a tuition scholarship to study graphic design. After earning a degree, students may launch a professional career in the graphic design field. Deadline for entries is February 6, 2009. In all, approximately $100,000 in tuition scholarships will be awarded.

2009 Adobe Design Achievement Awards

Contest is open to all individuals age 18 years or older who are full-time matriculated students in an accredited institution of higher education in the 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Republic of China, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Russian Federation, Poland and Turkey, who hold citizenship status or have official work or student visas for the above countries. For group entries, everyone who worked on the entry must be listed on the entry form and must meet these eligibility requirements. One of these people must be designated on the entry form as lead team member. LE MONSIEUR - Animation Short



+ Le Monsieur, Le Vampire et Renée Marcelle is the new animated short by Oscar Alavarado from Mexico. The project is produced and animated only by Oscar and Martha Vaquera. The story of two young art students in the Paris of 1920. One day, a strange man it appears in their lifes,... what happen next....! The entire short is made with BLENDER 3D. An open source 3d modeling and animation application developed by the BLENDER FOUNDATION in Amsterdam, Holand. This gives to Oscar the chance to keep his work in the independent scene. The final short will be presented for first time in the Blender Conference 2009 in Amsterdam.
