NimbleTools 1.1 For AutoDesk Maya


+ NimbleTools are useful and free plugin scripts for AutoDesk's Maya (maya 7, 8 and 8.5), developed by Nimble Studios Inc. HyperVeil - The HyperVeil hides complex shading networks from the HyperGraph and HyperShade and wraps them in a streamlined, customizable interface to ease tweaking. You can then add attributes from the hidden nodes to the HyperVeil's interface - exposing them through the HyperVeil's Attribute Editor. Double-clicking a HyperVeil node in the HyperShade or HyperGraph will hide and show all of the veiled nodes. Uninstancer for Maya - The Uninstancer allows you to bake particle instances into geometry, animation, and blendshapes that can be modified and updated without messing around with dynamics and expressions.

Advanced Skeleton 2.0 For Maya



+ Another very handy tool for character Rigging, developed by
Animation Studios Australia, and its now made totally free. AdvancedSkeleton Pro is a collection of Autodesk's Maya tools for doing character setup. Creating a Skeleton Setup for characters that works well, is a cumbersome job that includes: animation constraints, expressions and driven keys as well as fitting of the skeleton joints to the character. AdvancedSkeleton was designed to do most of this, so you can get your character setup done much faster. AdvancedSkeleton creates a complex motion system called AdvancedSkeleton from a simple joint chain called FitSkeleton. You can download the latest free version of AdvancedSkeleton from Highend3d.com.

PELTING TOOLS 1.5.4 Beta ***


+ we have featured PELTING Tools; a useful Maya plugins scripts before, but recently someone asked me about UV Pelting in Maya, so we decided to feature this very handy script for Maya once again. UV Pelting is the process of quickly unwrapping geometry and generate texture coordinates for a 3d surface. UV Pelting significantly reduces the time required to compute texture UV's because; instead of stitching various patches together to create maps, the modelers can easily select the "pelting" edge path and generate the connected map automatically. PELTING Tools is developed by sunit parekh, who also explained how-to work with pelting tools quite nicely on his website. The Pelting Tools version 1.5.4 for Maya 6.x-8.x is available for download and it is compatible with Linux, windows as well as Mac.

Various Maya MEL Scripts


+ Below are various Maya MEL Scripts we found quite useful. These Maya scripts are developed by various CG Artists and studios to improve their workflow and to further extend the Maya Functionality.

MELscripts by Vi Cuong Van’s
- vV_keySelectedChannels.mel : When mapped to a hot key it will let you key only the selected channels of your object/objects.
- vV_hudControl.mel : A graphical user interface to control on screen heads up display. Items include, name, status, scene number, date, frame number and file name. All these elements can be easily place in any position on the screen via the gui. You can also specify the size of the labels or data via right mouse menu.
- vV_matchScale.mel : Matches the world size of an object to another object. A user interface is included in order to match all axis or individual axis. You can also just run the script without the UI but it will match all axis as default.

MELscripts by Aaron Koressel
- ackSteppedTween : Inserts a stepped key linearly interpolated between the two adjacent stepped keys. For use in very early blocking while everything is a stepped key and poses line up on the same frame. Use it as a quick starting place for creating a breakdown. Operates on what's in the graph editor not what's selected. Works on selected curves, or if none are selected, all curves.
- ackSliceCurves : Inserts a key at the current time into the currently selected curves while preserving tangents. Operates on selected curves in graph editor not currently selected objects. If no curves are selected, slices all curves in graph editor. This is basically the same functionality as Maya's insert key tool, but arguably faster because it just slices the current frame.
- ackSnapAnimation : Takes current selection of keys and offsets it's values so that it lines up with the neighboring key to the left. Very useful for rearranging animation and keeping your animation relative to it's neighbor. Operates on each curve separately, so offset amount won't necessarily be the same across multiple curves.
- ackDeleteRedundant : Deletes keys that have the same value as it's two neighboring keys. Will only delete keys that are in the current selection. Useful for post-blocking cleanup, and reducing your spiderweb of curves to a more manageable state.

- bevelProfile.mel : Creates bevels based on a profile, this can then be edited to create pretty much any bevel.
- subdGivenIntoPolyMode.mel : This script fixes the problems with texturing subD's polycage, the polycage keeps the texture/shading info, but is disabled in other ways, so you have a complete and robust polytexturing workflow.
- enableJointMove.mel : Enables you to move the joint after skinning, using 'move-pivot'/(insert) mode.

MELscripts by Brian Escribano
- Color Nodes 2.0 : Color Nodes allows for quick coloring of most nodes based off the color overrides. Great for character rig control! 31 Flavors to choose from! Creates a small interface for quick coloring of your controls. Based off the Active Index Palette and User Defined Colors. Create a 3 Color Custom Palette for common color changes.
- reNameIt 2.1 : This Renames selected Nodes in order of selection. The names are based off of (prefix + variable + suffix) The variable can be [a-z], [A-Z], [0-9], [none]. In number mode RMC will bring up a menu to add padding to the names. The start value of the variable can be changed. Having a name in the Root will name that seperatly from the rest of the selection. The name can ethier replace the existing name add as a prefix or suffix to the existing name. Supports [aa-zz], [AA-ZZ] bsaed off the size of the selection.Reoders and Renames keyable and non-keyable attrbutes on node. Added auto-padding feature to drop down.

Cybotic Maya MEL Scripts



- Various Maya MEL scripts available for free download. These useful job specific Maya scripts are written by CG-Artist Ciaran Devine. animCopy - Duplicates animations from one node to other node(s). Can off set each duplicate per node either randomly, or sequentially. Either copies anim curves, or creates an expression where the offset is an adjustable attribute. UI driven.... arc3d - Creates a solid nurbs arc with full history. UI driven.... polyColXYZ - Creates three lambert shaders (red green & blue), and connects the polys that face X,Y&Z to each respective shader.... sel2path - Attach many selected objects to one path, with individual animation curves. Each animation's timing may be offset. Path animation parameters (bank, follow etc) are taken from Maya's path animation menu settings.... xsi2mayaCam - This maya script Copy any type of camera animation from Xsi to Maya. Works with all resolutions/ratios, pal/ntsc, animated fov (focal length). Will also copy translation of objects.... walkCycle - WalkCycle will easily prepare animation loops for any symmetrical limbed characters. It defines the motion of the limbs on one side of the body as delayed functions of the user animated limbs. During looped play, any tweaks made to a limb are instantly seen on the opposing limb - even without having to pause playback. Cycled Animation curves can be shifted forwards/backwards by the user to try various weighted' looks, without concerns about loop baking, as it will check and accurately bake loops in preparation for clip-definition and non-linear animation and Many More!!

Maya Scripts Pack - New zooToolBox Released



- Hamish McKenzie has finally released new verison of zooToolBox (
MEL script pack), a collection of usefull Maya MEL scripts. Hamish : stretchy IK spine. there is finally an ik spine primitive which I'm proud to talk about in zooCST now. its pretty simple (and is based on a sub-primitive so you can also use it for stretchy tails etc..) but really quite effective and surprisingly powerful. I would like to explore this as a basis for more complex spine primitives...To tell you the truth, I always figured ik spines were a bit of a gimmick, which is why I had never bothered to really explore the a decent implementation before. but I have been wanting to build a motionPath constraint, which is the sub-primitive basis for this new ikspine. so once I had that written, building the actual ikspine was pretty easy, and now that I have it, I'm kinda excited to get animating with it............Download Link!!

It's thought as a starting point for people that want to write exporters for such objects into their own format. Maya MEL -- Animation workflow



- Few handy mel scripts to help animation workflow. #Display Marking Menu- This script makes the annoying display menu into a hotkey, to easily toggle the visibility of polygons, nurbs, camera, lights, curves display etc. #Make Animation Hold - This script speeds up the modification of animation holds where two keys are needed to hold static poses. #Snap Keyframe to Current Time (Retain Spacing) - This script when mapped to a hotkey snaps the selected "first key frame" to current time. #Key Frame Scaler - Ok this is a very handy script, it's more useful than it sounds. It scales keys from the center of each curve.....many more!!

MEL Script : Puppet Master 1.1.0



- A maya script written by John Galvin. Puppet Master is a creature rig builder for a basic biped, this version is very straight forward, at the moment it has only one optional feature, which is either have the default full FK Creature Rig or have it setup as a IK & FK Creature Rig. This script will create a fully ready to animate character rig, with Icon Controls, Display Layers & a Character set, ready to animate. Help file is also available ..............download scripts!!
