NVidia Quadro FX 5600 Review by CGC

+ CgChannel recently did a editorial review on NVidia Quadro FX 5600 Graphic Card. The NVIDIA Quadro FX5600, introduced in March 2007, is designed to tackle the most demanding 3D animation, rendering and visualization tasks. We’re not talking about a gaming video card here, but rather a high-end professional level graphics card based on the G80GL GPU with a hefty 1.5GB of onboard memory. The Quadro FX5600 along with the FX4600 is NVIDIA’s flagship graphics card. We have put NVIDIA’s top model, the FX5600 to the test, and you wll find our results and comments below.

Another quick test was done with the particle flow in 3ds Max8. Nothing special here, except the FX5600 did effortlessly handle 1000 polygons per/sec with the 3ds Max generated particles.......Read on!!

Visual Effects Studio "Sway" Sweetens the Visual Flavor for Commercial CG with NVIDIA Quadro Pro Graphics

+ Art imitates life—or in this case, cereal. SWAY studio, a top North American visual effects studio, used NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics boards to create hundreds of computer-generated (CG) cereal flakes for a recent General Mills Cinnamon Toast Crunch television commercial. Making CG cereal appetizing, however, is no small feat. Once the creative team at SWAY convinced client General Mills that photorealistic CG would be the best way to depict the cereal, the project was underway. But making the commercial proved to be far more challenging than simply developing a tasty product shot. The SWAY creative team had to model and animate the cereal to look and behave like the real thing; tumbling from box to bowl before being scooped up by a spoon. From there, the computer-generated imagery transitions into a live-action shot of the cereal being eaten by a hungry young girl. Due to the viewer’s close proximity to the cereal bowl, it was necessary for SWAY to generate each piece of cereal in great detail. From the CG milk to the individual cinnamon and sugar crystals on each piece of cereal, the sequence called for several million polygons to be displayed at any given time.
Mark Glaser, owner and creative director of SWAY studio explains: “NVIDIA graphics allow us, as CG pros, the confidence to tackle any project that comes our way, especially those as highly involved and detailed as the General Mills CTC commercial.”
SWAY used Quadro professional graphics coupled with Autodesk 3ds Max, Luxology modo, and V-Ray from The Chaos Group to model and animate the cereal, along with Real Flow 4 to simulate the dynamics of the tumbling cereal and pouring milk.Without NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics technology in the production pipeline, scenes involving such heavy geometric data would have been logistically impractical. However, with Quadro solutions, SWAY was able to work with large amounts of data with relative ease, delivering completely believable CG that offers mouth-watering appeal.
